Chicago Fire vs New York City FC

Chicago Fire vs New York City FC : New York City FC earned their second-straight victory, defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0, in a fairly dull affair on Wednesday night. Ultimately, all that matters is the result and NYCFC fans are sure to be satisfied with another three points. Believe it or not, they are in playoff position with 11 points. New York City FC are one of six teams with only one loss, although, they have the fewest points of that group, having won just two matches all year.

The defense was very good against the Fire. They kept their second-straight clean sheet and Sean Johnson did not have to make a single save. Chicago had more possession (54%), but they managed to take just six shots. None of them were on target.

The offense started hot. Valentin Castellanos scored the game-winning goal in the eighth minute of the match, concluding a counter-attack captained by Maxi Moralez. However, after that, New York City FC only took another three shots and just one of those as on target. The team’s shiny new striker, Heber, tallied the assist but did not take a single shot all match. The attack looked cohesive and dangerous against D.C. United. However, it just did not click this night.
Preview and team news, ways to watch, live coverage, and reactions as the Chicago Fire face New York City FC at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday, May 25th, in MLS action.

The Chicago Fire look to rebound from a loss to San Jose Earthquakes when they host a New York City FC squad that is unbeaten in their last seven games when the Eastern Conference foes clash at SeatGeek Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Aleksandar Katai scored the lone goal for the Fire (4-5-4), but it came after four goals by Chris Wondolowski, who became the league's all-time leading scorer in a 4-1 rout at Avaya Stadium last Saturday. It snapped a three-match unbeaten run for Chicago, which didn't concede in that stretch.

NYCFC (4-1-6) were idle in Week 12, but come into their second game of the year against the Fire after back-to-back shutouts on the road. The Cityzens won the first game, 1-0, at Yankee Stadium on a ninth-minute Valentin Castellanos goal.
